Give it to me, baby!

I'm wanting to build a section of my writing craft library on characterization. Tell me the best you've found on this, if you don't mind! I love using recommendations!

I especially recommend Beyond Alpha -- A Look at 8 Hero Archetypes http://www.likesbooks.com/eight.html

And its counterpoint on Heroine Archetypes http://www.likesbooks.com/78.html

Brenda, have you tried Holly Lisle's page? Fantastic stuff. I have a link on my blog.

Christopher Vogler's book on the Hero's Journey called "The Writer's Journey" has a lot of information on the archetypes. It's one of my favorite books.

I like Building Believable Characters (McCutcheon, Writers Digest) and Creating Characters: How To Build Story People (D. Swain). Also used The Writer's Guide To Character Traits (Edelstein). Vogler and Campbell's books also sit on my shelves...

Darn it. I would but I let a friend borrow a bunch of my writing books and I never received them back. And wouldn't you just know that now when I need the title my memory has failed me. Bah. Sometimes it's tough being a Lumpy.

The Lumpy
